Internet Safety

Your footprint, your information, your move

Two questions

Hands up: who has posted something they later deleted?

Keep your hand up if you're certain nobody else has a copy.

The internet remembers

Deleting removes a post from your page. Not from screenshots, other phones, or platform data.

Your digital footprint is everything you post on purpose, plus everything collected without you noticing.

Who reads your footprint?

Sixth forms. Employers. Future friends.

And people with bad intentions, who read it most carefully of all.

Leak 1: Location

Not one big reveal. Small details adding up: a uniform badge, a street sign, the same park every Friday.

Fix: location off by default, check backgrounds, never post "home alone".

Leak 2: Access

Shared passwords, usually shared with a best friend or partner.

Friendships end. Passwords remember. Yours alone, like a toothbrush.

Leak 3: Audience

"Private" means a smaller audience, not an actual secret. Screenshots exist.

The test: happy for your head of year AND your nan to see it? Then post it.

That "fun quiz"

First pet's name. Street you grew up on. Date of birth.

Those are password recovery answers. The quiz is a harvest.

Seeing is no longer believing

AI can fake photos, voices and video convincingly.

New rule: verify important things through a second route. Ask in person. Ring them. Check.

Tell someone early

Nothing online is too small or too embarrassing to mention.

Early telling keeps small problems small. Decide tonight who your adult is.

Where to get help

Childline 0800 1111. CEOP at ceop.police.uk for anything involving pressure, photos or meeting up.

Report and block in the app. And your trusted adult, always.

Tonight

One change to your accounts: privacy check, location off, follower cull, or a password you've shared, changed.

Which one is yours?
